Year 1/2 Potter
Welcome to Potter Class!
This year we have named our classes based on inspirational people from around the world and from throughout history. Our class is proudly named "Potter" to inspire our students with her talent, determination and hard work towards achieving her goals.
We have two teachers in our Year 1/2 class this year and children are encouraged to reach for the stars and to strive and achieve the best that they can by all of us!
Mr Greenslade will be teaching (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) and Mrs Hunter, will be teaching the class for 2 days of the week (Thursday and Friday).
We are very lucky to have Mrs Hawkins, Miss Bond, Miss Trapnell, Mrs Azeez, Miss Moore and Mrs Coates working across our key stage team!
Our three topics this year are:
- Autumn - Local History (Sir Francis Drake, Brunel and Robert Falcon Scott)
- Spring - The Great Fire of London.
- Summer- Explorers
We are committed to building positive relationships with all children and their families and enjoy having that link, so please feel free to contact us whenever you need to, and we will always do our best to help however we can. If we can't speak at the door, please use Class Dojo (please just be aware that we will not see messages on Class Dojo during the school day due to teaching).
We can't wait to have an amazing year together!
PE
Please note that we have PE on a Wednesday so remember to dress your child in their full PE kit on this day. Please ensure your child has their coloured PE top, PE hoodie, PE bottoms, hair tied back and jewellery removed on these days so that they are ready and safe to take part.

Homework
For Year One and Year two, homework will consist of spellings to practise for a test the following Monday. The spellings are linked to the KS1 National Curriculum. A homework sheet will be sent home each week and will link to their learning for the week. This will allow them to practise the skills they have been learning. There will also be an activity linked to our foundation subjects where the children can revisit or deepen their learning of topics taught. We would greatly appreciate it if you could read with your child for 10 minutes every night to help improve their reading fluency and comprehension
Please note – spelling tests will take place on a Friday.
Reading
Children should bring in their reading records every day so that reading teachers can share the sounds they have taught your child each day.
Please encourage your child to read at home. It'll only take 5 to 10 minutes and makes a tremendous difference to their confidence and attainment in class! The reading book you receive will be in line with your child's reading ability. The children are assessed regularly, and book levels are set accordingly.
Books will be changed on a Monday and Thursday and this will only happen if the reading record has been signed by an adult at home.
Accelerated Reader – For children on the AR scheme, we encourage children to read the book 3 times before they quiz to give them the best chance of gaining 100%. Please continue to return the book each day.
