Reception - Attenborough & Nightingale
A note from Miss May and Miss Hallett
Welcome to Reception. Our aim is to provide a warm, happy and caring environment to nurture and develop your children, preparing them for their educational journey here at Knowle Primary School and beyond.
Our class names have been chosen based on inspirational people across the world and throughout history. We are very excited to learn all about David Attenborough and Florence Nightingale throughout the year alongside all the other interesting topics we will be covering. We feel basing our class names on inspirational people is the start of the rising ambition and aspiration of the children in our school.
Throughout the year, we will cover a range of topics following our Super 6 Curriculum and be immersed in a range of learning opportunities. Additionally, we will closely observe your children, following their schemas, needs and interests. Extending their learning through the use of newly introduced vocabulary, BLANK questioning, rich stories and a carefully considered environment.
Please share the learning you have completed at home. We would love to see it on the class DOJO page! Likewise, if you would like to contact us for help, we will be more than happy to see how we can support you.
We are looking forward to our year of learning and fun! In the meantime, please explore our Facebook and Instagram pages to see some of the learning we have got up to. Also, check below for some information you may need throughout the year.

P.E
Please note that we have PE on a Friday, so please remember to dress your child in their full PE kit on this day. Please ensure your child has their coloured PE top, PE hoodie, PE bottoms, hair tied up and jewellery removed on these days so that they are ready and safe to take part.
Thank you for your cooperation.
FOREST SCHOOL
Please note that we have Forest School on a Wednesday. Please ensure your child has a labelled pair of Wellington boots. You may keep the boots in school or bring them each week. Your child will need to wear school uniform on this day. We will provide waterproofs.
HOMEWORK
In Reception, the children will bring home weekly sheets to practice a range of learning that we have already covered in class, covering a literacy, maths and topic activity. In addition, the children will bring home a Numbots login at the start of the year. Please support your children in using this at home to enable them to progress further.
READING
In Reception, the children will bring home a reading book based upon their phonological stage that they will read to you and a library book for you to share together. Children should bring in their reading records every day and are encouraged to read every night at home. Please do encourage your child to read at home. It'll only take 5 to 10 minutes and will make a tremendous difference to their confidence and attainment in class!
Thank you for your cooperation.
STAR OF THE WEEK
Star of the Week will be awarded to a different child every Friday afternoon for being a superstar all week! You will be invited in to celebrate with them at our Star of the Week assembly from around Spring term.
